The Montessori Curriculum

Grace and Courtesy

Every child seeks to understand the social world around them. Through carefully guided experiences, we help children develop the social skills that build confidence, respect, and joyful connections with others.

"The child has a need to know and to absorb the social structures in order to be more at ease in his environment."

~ Maria Montessori

Order and purpose

As part of the Practical Life curriculum, Grace and Courtesy exercises help children understand and master the routines of social life. Maria Montessori introduced these exercises in reaction to the young child’s need for order.  These precise lessons help children develop the independence and confidence they require to navigate social situations with ease.

Guidance and practice

Our educators play a vital role in Grace and Courtesy development, giving children the exact words, precise movements, and clear steps needed for social situations. Through individual guidance and group lessons, they create daily opportunities for children to practice these skills until they become a natural part of their interactions.

Practicing life's social skills

Grace and Courtesy exercises are fundamental to preserving culture and reinforcing positive behavior. Through carefully structured lessons, children learn to create pleasant environments wherever they go. These exercises begin as simple demonstrations but grow into natural habits that serve children throughout their lives.

Our educators present lessons through role-play, demonstration, and real-life practice, allowing children to perfect themselves while working with others. As children master these skills, they develop not just good manners, but a genuine understanding of how their actions affect their community.
