Centre Philosophy
Building Futures Montessori Wavell Heights offers childcare that follows the discoveries and teachings of Dr Maria Montessori.
We understand that a child’s primary source of development and learning is through exploration of their environment. In our childcare classrooms you will see children right from birth working independently to develop practical life skills. These experiences are developing and extending independence, concentration, will power and persistence which aid children to become confident and involved learners and later in life contributing members of society. The child’s potential is only limited by the experiences with which they are provided.
Children move through sensitive periods on their journey of development. Each child’s journey of development is unique. At Building Futures Wavell Heights we place trust in each individual child on this learning journey and support their individual growth by providing specifically designed developmentally appropriate equipment with varying levels of complexity that are independently accessed by each child as they move through these sensitive periods. The variety of equipment and ease of access ensures every child can be a successful, capable and confident learner.
Social cohesion is enhanced by our mixed age groupings. These allow the older children to develop responsibility and confidence while providing opportunities for the younger children to learn from and aspire to the further learning carried out with the older children in the group.
We value each family as their child’s first teacher and believe that as parents and carers you know your child best. Each family is unique and we therefore encourage our families to contribute to the program in a way which suits them. We endeavour to build strong relationships with our families as we believe this is a key component in the quality education and care of all children. Through these relationships we are able to understand each child and family at a deeper level enabling us to cater for and support each individual need.
We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the people of the Turrbal region. We recognise that diversity contributes to the richness of our society, we endeavour to promote a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being and respect the histories, cultures, languages, traditions, child rearing practices and lifestyle choices of all families within our service.
Our staff are on a continual path of professional development and commit extra time to studying the philosophy and theory behind Montessori’s work to ensure each child’s needs are understood and met at the deepest level. We are a close family of educators who utilise each other’s strengths and weaknesses to professionally reflect upon our work and the children’s progress and learning to ensure growth in ourselves and quality outcomes for all children. We understand the pressures placed on families in our current busy society, we strive to relieve some of these pressures for you and your child by forming trusting relationships through strong communication and personal interactions with you and your child in the quest to make you both feel as relaxed as possible knowing that your child is safe, smiling and individually catered for whilst in our care.
Building Futures Montessori provides a childcare environment that becomes a home away from home for our children and families. Therefore, our environments are constructed with natural materials such as wood, woven baskets, glass, fabrics and porcelain to reflect the children’s homes. Each environment is a little community that the children have ownership of and are responsible for; the children are encouraged to show respect for others by tidying up when finished and helping to keep equipment and furniture clean and ready for the next use.
Building Futures Montessori Child Care is a preparation not only for future learning but for life.
